Lead acid battery-Repair Method of Battery Plate vulcanization

1.The importance of maintaining Lead acid battery Lead-acid batteries have a wide range of applications, and have applications in many fields such as automobiles, communications, electric vehicles, and mobile audio. Lead-acid batteries have a history of more than 140 years. As a professional and almost 20 years manufacture of car, truck, motorcycle and industry batteries in China, we must tell you that maintaining the Lead acid battery and extending the battery life is very important.However,In daily life, many people have encountered the troublesome problem of battery vulcanization but they don’t know what it means or this special definition. 2.What is battery plate sulfation? White and hard lead sulfate crystals are formed on the plate, and it is very difficult to convert into lead sulfate which is active material when charging. This is called sulfation, or “sulfurization” . The lead sulfate has the feature of poor conductivity, high resistance, low solubility as well as much difficulty to recover when charging. These features have resulted in reduced capacity and shortened life. In order to extend the service life of the battery effectively, the best way is to repair the battery plate vulcanization. In this essay we will talk about the repairing issue of the lead-acid battery plate vulcanization. The essence of sulfation repair is to crystallize the white hard lead sulfate, soften it, refine it and dissolve it. To enhance the reversible chemical reaction ability inside the plate, so that the battery can restore good performance. 3.What are the main repair methods of plate vulcanization? About plate vulcanization, according to the extent of the damaged surface. It includes slight , moderate and severe vulcanization. Usually for the slight and moderate vulcanization, we use the same repair method. So below we will share the 2 main repair methods. 3.1. Repair methods for slight and moderate vulcanization: (1).First of all, charge the lead-acid battery, and after it is fully charged, perform a 10-20 hour rate current discharge. For a 6v battery, put it to 5.4v and for a 12v battery to 10.8v. (2).Open the lid and leather cap of the battery, pour out the electrolyte, replace it with an electrolyte with a density of 1.04~1.06g/cm3, and charge it with a current below 1/20 for more than 20 hours, until the electrolyte density no longer rises and then stop. (3). Fill and seal with standard electrolyte, and then fully charge it according to the normal charging method. (4).Test the capacity of the battery, if it can reach more than 80% of the standard capacity, it means the repair is successful; if it can’t, it will be repaired by heavy vulcanization. 3.2. Repair methods for severe vulcanization: (1).Use 10% sodium sulfate aqueous solution or 0.1% to 0.5% potassium carbonate aqueous solution to inject the original electrolyte of the battery, and charge for 70 to 80 hours with a low current of less than 1/20. (2). Pour out the aqueous solution, rinse it with distilled water (or pure water) repeatedly, add electrolyte with a density of 1.40g/cm3, and adjust to standard density. (3) .After a normal charge and discharge, if the capacity can be restored to about 90% of the standard capacity, the repair is successful. 4.Pay attention to protect and repair lead-acid batteries From my personal experience, many driving friends do not pay much attention to the phenomenon of vulcanization.
